Community class bookings

Help residents find a class, reserve a place and change their plans.

Fictional public example. Free classes only; payments, recurring or guest bookings, and staff scheduling are outside this release.

For business review. Selected acceptance criteria and all 3 open assumptions. Implementation must use the full PRD and technical design. This is a dated snapshot; source links open the current documents.

01 / SECTION

Find and reserve a place

Residents see what is available and reserve one place in a class.

Key acceptance criteria & mockups

  • Show the date, start and end times, venue and remaining places before someone books. AC-BOOK-01
  • One place per signed-in person. A repeated request shows the existing booking; if the last place has gone, explain that the class is full. AC-BOOK-02
  • A successful booking shows the class details and cancellation action, and sends a confirmation email. AC-BOOK-04

Should staff manage waiting-list invitations?

When a place opens, staff choose whom to invite. Nobody is enrolled automatically. Joining the list never guarantees a place.

Why this is proposed

Fictional reasoning: staff already manage attendance and invitations. Keeping that responsibility with them avoids introducing an unconfirmed queue policy. Staff may consider accessibility needs or short-notice availability; automatic first-in-line invitations would be a different policy.

Send one reminder 24 hours before class?

Send one reminder email 24 hours before the class. Skip it for bookings made less than 24 hours before the start and for bookings canceled before the reminder is due. The booking confirmation email is separate.

Why this is proposed

Fictional reasoning: reducing missed classes is a goal, but no reminder schedule is established. One day’s notice gives residents time to change plans without repeated messages; a different interval or several reminders would be a different policy.

02 / SECTION

Change plans and cancel

Residents cancel a booking themselves, and the released place becomes available again.

Key acceptance criteria & mockups

  • Show the class before asking the resident to confirm cancellation. AC-CANCEL-01
  • A confirmed cancellation releases one place and sends a cancellation email. Repeating it does not release another place. AC-CANCEL-02

RULE-002Confidence: 80%Affects residents and staffUnanswered

Allow cancellation until the class starts?

Residents can cancel before the start time. At or after that time, the cancellation action disappears and cancellation is declined. Canceling releases the place immediately; staff manage any waiting-list invitation.

Why this is proposed

Fictional reasoning: self-service cancellation is intended, but no cutoff is established. A 24-hour cutoff gives staff more notice, but makes late changes dependent on staff help.
